India's Vice Captain Shreyas Iyer Hospitalized in Sydney Due to Internal Injury

India’s ODI vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, has been hospitalized in Sydney, currently residing in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to an internal injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia.

The injury occurred when Iyer suffered a blow after executing a remarkable running catch to dismiss Alex Carey on Saturday. While he initially seemed to shake off the impact, he later experienced discomfort upon his return to the dressing room. Consequently, he was promptly transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Scans disclosed a laceration to his spleen.

Iyer is expected to remain in the ICU for several more days before being moved to a general ward. His parents are en route to Australia to be by his side.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Iyer is in stable condition and is receiving treatment under the care of the team’s medical staff and local specialists. He is likely to stay in Sydney for at least a week before being cleared to return to India.

Initially anticipated to be out for approximately three weeks, Iyer’s recovery timeline may be extended, contingent on his response to treatment. He is not included in India’s T20 squad.
