India’s Fate Sealed: Out of Women’s ODI World Cup 2025

India's Hopes Dashed: Missing the Women's ODI World Cup 2025

India suffered a narrow defeat against England, losing by four runs in their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 league stage match on Sunday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

This marked the third consecutive loss for the Women in Blue in this World Cup, following defeats to South Africa and Australia, despite earlier victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Nonetheless, India still has a chance to qualify for the semifinals.

What does India need to do to qualify for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinals?

With their win on Sunday, England became the third team to secure a spot in the semifinals. With only one semifinal position remaining, India’s upcoming match against New Zealand is crucial.

Currently, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team is in fourth place, maintaining an advantage over the White Ferns based on Net Run Rate.

India needs to win both of its remaining games to maintain its lead over New Zealand, who will face England after their match against India.

If India falls to New Zealand, their hopes of qualifying will be severely diminished. They would then need to defeat Bangladesh, who are nearly out of the competition, and hope for New Zealand to lose against England in the tournament’s final league-stage match.
