India’s Bowlers Shine in Commanding Win to Lead Series 2-1 Against South Africa
On a chilly night in Dharamsala, India heated up the atmosphere with a commanding seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the third T20I on Sunday. This outstanding performance secured India a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
India took charge from the beginning, opting to field and dismantling South Africa for just 117 runs with a formidable bowling display. The chase was straightforward, initiated by Abhishek Sharma’s towering six off Lungi Ngidi, and was completed in just 15.5 overs.
Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were instrumental in the PowerPlay, applying early pressure on the visitors. Arshdeep’s sharp deliveries were too good for Reeza Hendricks, while Harshit’s skiddy ball dismissed the in-form Quinton de Kock. The South African innings struggled, crawling to just 25 for three in the initial six overs. Hardik Pandya, upon joining the attack, dismissed Tristan Stubbs, marking his 100th T20I wicket. Shivam Dube and Varun Chakravarthy also contributed with key wickets.
Despite some resistance from captain Aiden Markram (61 off 46 balls), who injected some life into the innings with a few big hits, South Africa was restricted. Markram’s stunning catch to dismiss Abhishek was another highlight amid a challenging game for the visitors. Kuldeep Yadav, brought in for the unwell Axar Patel, wrapped up the tail.
India’s response was enjoyed by the large crowd at the HPCA Stadium, despite dropping four catches. Abhishek Sharma (35 off 18 balls) and Shubman Gill (28 off 28 balls) led India to a powerful start, reaching 68 for one by the end of the PowerPlay. With the outcome clear, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, who remained unbeaten with 26, added finishing touches to the innings.
