India Triumphs Over Australia to Secure Spot in 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Final

India Clinches Victory Against Australia to Advance to 2025 Women's ODI World Cup Final

The day witnessed an incredible cricket match.

A total of 669 runs were scored, including two outstanding centuries. The highlight was a massive turnout at the DY Patil Stadium, where fans watched India shock the defending champions, Australia, to secure a place in the Women’s ODI World Cup final.

Before this match, India had never chased a target above 265. To overhaul Australia’s 339-run target, the Indian team achieved the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history. Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial role, guiding India to victory with five wickets in hand and nine balls remaining. This set up an exciting final clash against South Africa at the same venue.

Jemimah’s partnership of 167 runs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur brought stability after openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma were dismissed early. Jemimah excelled, displaying her skills with precision shots and swift running.

While Jemimah shone, Harmanpreet played a supporting role initially but later increased the tempo. Unfortunately, she was caught in the eighties by Ashleigh Gardner. With 113 runs needed from 88 balls, Jemimah took responsibility to lead the team to victory.

Several players contributed to easing the pressure. Deepti Sharma played a cameo before a run-out, and Richa Ghosh showcased her ability to clear boundaries, ensuring India maintained a healthy run-rate.

In the end, Jemimah was celebrated by her teammates when Amanjot Kaur’s square cut off Sophie Molineux hit the boundary, sealing a remarkable victory for India.

Despite India’s shaky fielding, which allowed extra runs and missed opportunities, Australia also struggled under pressure. Their captain Alyssa Healy dropped a crucial catch and Tahlia McGrath failed to dismiss Jemimah, which was pivotal.

Earlier, Litchfield and teammates had impressed with the bat. Ellyse Perry was smooth in her strokes, while Gardner was aggressive. Litchfield, however, stood out as Australia’s primary scorer, crafting a massive total of 338 before being bowled out at the penultimate ball.

Litchfield showcased her dominance from the start with a classic cover drive and continued with inventive shots, including two spectacular switch hits in the 27th over against Deepti Sharma.

Despite their brilliant batting, Australia’s effort could not withstand India’s determined chase, ensuring a historic win for the Women in Blue.
