India Triumphs Over Australia, Ending Eight-Match Drought
The Indian women’s cricket team achieved a significant victory over Australia, winning by 102 runs at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh on Wednesday, thereby leveling the three-match ODI series.
This triumph marked the end of an eight-match losing streak for the Women in Blue against Australia. Their previous win against the Aussies occurred on September 26, 2021, at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay, where India secured a two-wicket victory.
Additionally, India halted Australia’s impressive 13-match winning streak in ODIs, which had been unbroken since their loss to South Africa in February 2024.
The defeat also stood as Australia’s heaviest in terms of runs within the format.
After suffering an eight-wicket loss in the previous match, India bounced back by setting a formidable 292-run target, its highest score against Australia, thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s 12th ODI century.
With a strong defense of this total, India’s bowling unit, strengthened by pacer Renuka Singh Thakur’s return and a committed fielding performance, helped captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team push the series to a final decider, just ahead of the Women’s World Cup scheduled for later this month.
