India Sets New Record with Lightning 200+ Run Chase Against New Zealand
India set a new record for the fastest chase of over 200 runs in T20 Internationals, surpassing Pakistan’s previous record. In Raipur on Friday, India successfully chased a target of 209 runs in just 15.2 overs against New Zealand.
This achievement surpassed Pakistan’s previous record, which saw them chase down New Zealand’s target of 205 runs in 16 overs last year. India’s seven-wicket victory was chiefly powered by Ishan Kishan, who scored a rapid 76 off 32 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes, and captain Suryakumar Yadav’s return to form with an unbeaten 82 off 37 balls, featuring nine fours and four sixes.
This marks India’s sixth successful chase of over 200 runs in this format, placing them second in the global rankings. Australia leads with seven successful 200-plus run chases in T20Is.
Before this match, India’s fastest chase of over 200 runs in T20Is was against West Indies in Hyderabad, 2019, where they reached a 208-run target in 18.4 overs.
As India looks forward to defending its T20 World Cup title next month, they currently lead the five-match series against New Zealand 2-0, having already secured a series-opening win by 48 runs in Nagpur on Wednesday.
