India Dominates Scotland: Suryavanshi Shines in U19 World Cup 2026 Warm-Up
India achieved a commanding 121-run victory over Scotland in their first Under-19 World Cup warm-up match held at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, the Ayush Mhatre-led Indian squad amassed an impressive 374 for eight in the allotted 50 overs. This innings was highlighted by notable half-centuries from Vaibhav Suryavanshi (96 off 50 balls), Aaron George (61 off 58 balls), Vihaan Malhotra (77 off 81 balls), and Abhigyan Kundu (77 off 81 balls).
Suryavanshi set the aggressive tone with a swift partnership of 70 runs for the opening wicket alongside captain Mhatre, who scored 22 off 19 balls. Following Mhatre’s dismissal, Suryavanshi formed a crucial 78-run partnership with George for the second wicket, narrowly missing a century. After George’s departure, middle-order stalwarts Malhotra and Kundu contributed a vital 95-run stand for the fourth wicket, propelling India beyond the 300-run threshold. Despite losing the last five wickets for 36 runs, all-rounder R.S. Ambrish’s unbeaten 28 off 24 balls ensured the scoring rate remained robust.
In response, Scotland managed only 112 for nine in 23.2 overs, chasing a rain-adjusted target of 234 in 23.2 overs. Indian bowlers put on a clinical display, with pacer Deepesh Devendran and left-arm spinner Khilan Patel claiming three wickets each, while leg-spinner Mohamed Enaan secured two.
India is set to face England on Monday in their final warm-up match, before taking on the USA in the tournament opener on Friday.
