India Aims for Comprehensive Improvement in Crucial T20I Clash Against Sri Lanka, Says Coach Muzumdar

Coach Muzumdar Targets India's All-Round Excellence in Key T20I Battle with Sri Lanka

Amol Muzumdar acknowledges the pride that comes with being labeled as World Champions. The Indian Women’s cricket team has certainly lived up to that title, decisively defeating Sri Lanka in the first two matches of their current five-match T20I series.

“The team will carry this title since November 2,” the Indian coach remarked in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. He praised their outstanding performance in the opening matches and noted a positive shift in the team’s mood post-World Cup win, observing that they appear more joyful on the field.

Muzumdar also expressed his satisfaction with the performance of young bowler Vaishnavi Sharma. The 20-year-old left-arm spinner, debuting in the series, claimed her first two wickets in the last match.

“She rose to the challenge remarkably,” he said, commending her. “She delivered exactly what was needed. Her selection stemmed from her domestic performance, showing the selectors’ wisdom. Credit to her background in the Under-19 setup.”

He praised Vaishnavi’s composure, noting, “It’s not just about her skills. She demonstrated excellent mental control as well. She’s calm, collected, and shows great potential.”

The coach emphasized the importance of enhancing all aspects of the game. “It’s not just about fielding,” he emphasized. “Now there’s a fourth component: fitness. Batting, bowling, fielding, and fitness—we focus on all areas. There’s nothing specific to concentrate on; we want to keep progressing as a team.”

When asked about the strategy if India wins the toss, he explained, “We’ll choose to bowl first if that’s the better option, or bat first if the conditions favor it.”
