IND W vs AUS W Semifinal Clash: Rain Threatens Showdown – Is a Reserve Day in Place?
India will face off against Australia in a crucial semifinal match of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30th.
Anticipating the scenario from the previous league match between India and Bangladesh, which was interrupted by rain at the same venue, it’s important to review the weather forecast for the upcoming week and understand the procedures in place if rain disrupts the game.
According to section 13.6 of the ICC’s Playing Conditions for this tournament, the semifinals and final have a reserve day allocated to continue any incomplete match from the originally scheduled day. This condition isn’t extended to any other matches. The intent is to finish the match on the scheduled day with a reduction in overs, if necessary. However, if the minimum overs needed to constitute a match cannot be completed, the game will resume on the reserve day from the point where it stopped. More specifications are outlined in Appendix H of the protocol.
India faces a challenging task against the defending champions, Australia, as it strives to secure its first ODI world title.
For play on the reserve day, match hours will mirror those of the scheduled day, including the extra time provision. Should play be disrupted, umpires will utilize available extra time and, if required, reduce overs to try for a result. Teams must bat for at least 20 overs each for a result to be declared. If this isn’t feasible by the cut-off time, the reserve day will be utilized to conclude the match.
On the reserve day, the match will resume from where it left off. If the coin toss occurs on the scheduled day but no play follows, the results of the toss and named teams remain for the reserve day.
If weather still prevents a result on the reserve day, the team finishing higher in the league stage will advance to the final. In the final, if a tie occurs, a Super Over will decide the winner. Should weather prevent completion of the Super Over, or if the match results in abandonment or no result by the end of the reserve day, both teams will be declared joint winners.
