IBM, a global leader in hybrid cloud and AI, showcased how AI can revolutionize professional cricket. On Wednesday, it launched the world’s first cricket activation utilizing Watsonx, its AI and data platform made for enterprises.

During Think Mumbai 2025, IBM provided a live demonstration of experiences that transcend traditional simulations, illustrating how AI is reshaping professional cricket. This technology aids in deciphering game strategies, improving performance, and transforming the fan experience.

This activation underscores the blending of sports, data, and scalable AI. According to the IBM Sports Survey Report 2025, Indian fans are paving the way in global digital sports engagement. The survey indicates that 86 percent of fans trust AI-generated sports content, and 91 percent of Indian fans use sports apps, ranking among the highest worldwide.

Inside stadiums, a remarkable 95 percent of attendees use apps during matches, with 97 percent of those users seeking real-time stats, live commentary, and in-stadium enhancements. Looking to the future, 93 percent believe AI will influence how they engage with sports by 2027, signaling a trend towards an intelligent, interactive, and immersive fan experience in India.

Leveraging these insights, a prominent state cricket association in India has partnered with IBM to implement the Cricket IQ Analytics Platform, a pioneering generative AI system. IBM is also negotiating with an IPL franchise.

The platform evaluates player fitness, mental conditioning, match context, and environmental factors to generate actionable insights in natural language. These insights empower coaches to make quicker, smarter decisions with reduced uncertainty, ultimately enhancing performance.
