Harleen’s Heroics Propel UP Warriorz Past Mumbai Indians in WPL 2026 Thriller.
UP Warriorz found their winning form after three consecutive losses, securing their first victory in the Women’s Premier League this season with a seven-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians on Thursday at the D.Y. Patil Stadium. On a challenging surface, the Warriorz outplayed the Mumbai side, with Harleen Deol (64 not out off 39 balls, featuring 12 fours) and Phoebe Litchfield forming a crucial 73-run partnership for the third wicket to successfully chase down Mumbai’s total of 161 for five with 11 balls remaining.
Previously comparing the team’s losses to the bitterness of dark chocolate, coach Abhishek Nayar was hopeful for better results, and this match delivered the sweetness he desired. Despite an early setback with the quick dismissals of captain Meg Lanning and Kiran Navgire, Harleen and Litchfield maintained composure and confidence.
The management’s previous mistake of prematurely ‘retiring out’ a set Harleen was not repeated. This time, they backed her fully, allowing her to unleash a series of boundaries and earn the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Although Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was recovering from food poisoning, took two wickets for Mumbai, the rest of the bowlers failed to contain Harleen’s aggression.
Electing to bowl, the Warriorz restricted Mumbai Indians to a modest score through disciplined early overs. However, Sciver-Brunt and Nicola Carey rescued the innings in the latter half, adding 85 runs together for the fourth wicket, helping Mumbai reach over 160. Sciver-Brunt’s 43-ball 65, though impactful, was not enough to match the Warriorz’ chase as Mumbai struggled initially in the Powerplay.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s early dismissal, caught stunningly by Chloe Tryon, seemed to spell trouble for MI, but Sciver-Brunt and Carey showed resilience. Nevertheless, the total they posted proved insufficient against the determined Warriorz. The match concluded with a promising shift in momentum for UP Warriorz, as published on January 15, 2026.
