Commanding Triumphs Define 2026 U19 World Cup Kickoff

In a dominant display, South Africa secured a commanding 329-run victory over Tanzania in their ICC Under-19 World Cup Group D clash held at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek. The innings was driven by remarkable centuries from captain Muhammad Bulbulia, who scored 108 runs from 108 balls including 10 fours and 1 six, and Jason Wallace Rowles, who remained unbeaten with 125 runs off 101 balls, hitting 10 fours and 5 sixes. Paul James added the final touches to the innings with a brisk 46 off 18 balls, taking their total to 397 for five after being put in to bat by Tanzania. In response, Tanzania was bowled out for just 68 runs in the 33rd over, with only three players reaching double figures.

For South Africa, the victory was especially crucial, helping them to bounce back after their initial defeat to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, in Group C, Pakistan secured a six-wicket triumph over Scotland, earning their first points in the tournament. Chasing a target of 188, Pakistan reached their goal with ease, thanks to Usman Khan’s 75 from 85 deliveries, supported by Ahmed Hussain’s 47.

During Pakistan’s game, Scotland initially looked competitive as Ollie Jones dismissed the openers with only 48 runs on the board. Nevertheless, Usman and Ahmed stabilized the innings to guide Pakistan to victory. Earlier, Ali Raza and Momin Qamar dismantled Scotland’s top order by taking seven wickets between them. They left Scotland at 12 for two, and despite attempts at recovery by Captain Thomas Knight and Rory Grant, Qamar’s three wickets reduced Scotland to 115 for five. Finlay Jones offered some resistance, but Raza’s return saw Scotland bowled out under 200.

In another match, Sri Lanka secured a 106-run win against Ireland in Group A for their second tournament victory. Their top order struggled initially, but the middle order revived the innings from 59 for three. Vimath Dinsara’s 95 from 102 balls, assisted by Kavija Gamage’s 49 and Chamika Heenatigala’s unbeaten 51, propelled Sri Lanka to a total of 267 for five. Ireland’s lack of discipline gifted Sri Lanka 26 runs in extras, including 20 wides.

On the bowling front, Dulnith Sigera played a pivotal role for Sri Lanka by taking four wickets, instrumental in dismissing Ireland for 161. Callum Armstrong top-scored for Ireland with a laborious 39 from 83 balls but was the last wicket to fall, claimed by Sigera, who dismantled Ireland’s middle order, triggering a collapse from 66 for two to 78 for five in just 22 balls. Oliver Riley and Reuben Wilson offered a brief resistance with a 46-run partnership for the seventh wicket, but Ireland’s innings ended shortly thereafter.
