Dominant India Secures Series Sweep with Commanding Win Over Sri Lanka in 3rd T20I

India Completes Clean Sweep with Resounding Victory Against Sri Lanka in Final T20I

The complete names of Sri Lankan cricketers are famously lengthy, with Chaminda Vaas’ official name being more extended than his run-up. The nation’s female cricketers follow this tradition, featuring names like Harshitha Madavi Dissanayake Samarawickrama and the even longer Athapaththu Mudiyanselage Chamari Jayangani Kumai Athapaththu.

During the current T20I series against India, many Sri Lankan batters returned to the pavilion before their full names could be read. This pattern was evident in the first two matches and continued in the third T20I at the Greenfield Stadium on Friday.

India restricted Sri Lanka to 112 for seven and chased the target with ease, reaching it with eight wickets and 6.4 overs in hand. This victory secured the series 3-0 with two matches remaining, maintaining their momentum following last month’s triumphant ODI World Cup win.

After deciding to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a good start with Hasini Perera and Athapaththu scoring 25 runs in under five overs. Hasini showed promise, hitting two fours in Renuka Singh’s first over. Renuka, returning to T20I cricket after a year, took four wickets for 21 runs in her four overs, including a maiden. She dismissed Hasini, who edged to Deepti Sharma at short third after an off-balance shot.

The night also belonged to Deepti Sharma, who took three wickets for 18 runs, matching Megan Schutt’s record as the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20Is, with 151 wickets each. Among her wickets was Kavisha Dilhari, who had a 40-run partnership with Imesha Dulani, the highest in the Sri Lankan innings.

The focus then turned to India’s star-studded batting line-up and how quickly they would chase down Sri Lanka’s score. Opener Shafali Verma seized the opportunity, delivering an impressive performance. She scored an unbeaten 79 off 42 balls, hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes, delighting the crowd and securing the series victory for India.
