Dinesh Karthik Takes on Mentorship and Batting Coach Role at London Spirit for The Hundred
Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the mentor and batting coach for the Hundred franchise, London Spirit, as announced by the team management on Wednesday. This signifies Karthik’s first coaching role outside of the Indian Premier League, where he previously held a similar position with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the reigning champions.
Mo Bobat, the Spirit’s director of cricket, expressed his delight at the new addition: “We are thrilled to welcome DK to London Spirit. His innovative approach and extensive experience in short-format and franchise cricket will be a tremendous asset for us. He’s also a joy to collaborate with, bringing infectious energy and enthusiasm to his work,” remarked Bobat, who also serves as RCB’s director of cricket.
Although Karthik retired from the IPL following the 2024 season, he continues to participate in other leagues. The 40-year-old is currently part of the Sharjah Warriorz roster in the UAE’s ILT20 and had previously played for Paarl Royals in the SA20.
In his statement, Karthik expressed his excitement: “Joining London Spirit is thrilling. The prospects and ambitions shared by Mo, MCC, and the Tech Titans truly inspired me to come on board. Spending the English summer at Lord’s is a dream; it’s the place where I debuted and played my last Test for India—it holds a special place in my heart. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the squad come together and working with some exceptional players next year.”
Karthik, who has represented India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20Is, will aim to guide Spirit to its first-ever Hundred final.
