Devine Dazzles as GG Inches Towards 2026 WPL Playoffs in Thrilling Finish

In an electrifying encounter in the Women’s Premier League, the youthful energy of Niki Prasad combined with Sneh Rana’s seasoned skills almost led Delhi Capitals to a stunning comeback victory on Tuesday. Despite their efforts, Sophie Devine remained composed in the tense final over, guiding Gujarat Giants to a narrow three-run victory at the Kotambi Stadium.

Delhi Capitals were left needing nine runs in the last over to hit the target of 175. However, Devine allowed just five runs and dismissed Sneh on the fourth delivery, followed by Niki who was caught at long-on with the last ball.

The Capitals nearly turned the tide thanks to a resilient partnership of 70 runs between Niki and Sneh for the seventh wicket. When the duo took the crease, DC was struggling at 100 for six, requiring 75 runs from 33 balls. They reignited hope in their camp by scoring 23 runs off Devine in the 17th over.

AS IT HAPPENED | GG vs DC Highlights

DC’s innings experienced a rollercoaster ride from the start. The first six overs saw a blend of aggressive batting and errant bowling, leading to rapid scoring but also the loss of Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee.

Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to steady the innings with a 31-run stand for the third wicket. However, in a span of just 15 deliveries, DC lost Jemimah, Marizanne Kapp, and Wolvaardt, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad taking three wickets.

Earlier, the Giants set a solid foundation with Beth Mooney’s 46-ball 58, helping them post a competitive score. Anushka Sharma, scoring 39 at No. 3, backed Mooney effectively. After taking the field following Devine’s dismissal, Anushka showcased her skill with commanding drives and flicks, contributing to several early boundaries. DC’s left-arm spinner, N. Shree Charani, stood out with impressive figures of four for 31 in her four overs.

Giants capitalized on Beth Mooney's 46-ball 58 to amass a solid total.

Mooney reached her fifty in the 15th over, advancing at Shree Charani to hit a boundary towards long-on. She anticipated a shorter length from the bowler and adeptly cut the ball through point.

Although Mooney couldn’t see her innings through to the end, her pivotal contributions were crucial in clinching the win.
