Urvil Patel's 31-Ball Century Ignites Syed Mushtaq Ali T20

Gujarat captain Urvil Patel delivered an explosive performance by hitting a century in just 31 balls, featuring 11 fours and eight sixes, against Services at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad on the first day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

Services, batting first, posted a total of 182 for nine.

In their reply, Gujarat openers Urvil Patel and Aarya Desai dominated the Services bowling attack, compiling a 174-run partnership that made the run chase appear effortless. Urvil remained not out with a blistering 199 off 37 balls, including 12 fours and 10 sixes.

Urvil, a player for Chennai Super Kings in the last IPL season, was retained by the team ahead of this year’s mini auction.

In IPL 2025, Urvil’s striking ability caught attention with a strike rate of over 200 across three innings, despite one being a two-ball duck, scoring 68 runs.

Remarkably, even though Urvil led the sixes charts with 29 in six innings during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 and tied the record for the second-fastest T20 century off 28 balls, he initially went unsold at the 2025 IPL mega auction before being picked as a replacement for Vansh Bedi.
