Cricket Stars Penalized: Yadav, Bumrah, and Rauf Sanctioned for ICC Code Breaches
India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, along with Haris Rauf, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sahibzada Farhan, faced penalties for violating the ICC Code of Conduct, as confirmed by cricket’s governing body. These outcomes stemmed from incidents during the 2025 Asia Cup matches.
Members of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees conducted the hearings related to the matches between India and Pakistan on September 14, 21, and 28.
September 14, 2025 – India vs. Pakistan
Suryakumar Yadav was penalized for breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which involves behavior that tarnishes the game’s reputation. He was fined 30% of his match fee and given two demerit points. Farhan was similarly found guilty and received an official warning along with one demerit point. Rauf also breached the same rule, resulting in a 30% fine from his match fee and two demerit points.
September 21, 2025 – India vs. Pakistan
Arshdeep Singh from India was cleared of an alleged breach of Article 2.6, concerning the use of an obscene, offensive, or insulting gesture, and thus faced no penalty.
September 28, 2025 – India vs. Pakistan (Asia Cup final)
Jasprit Bumrah admitted to a charge under Article 2.21 for misconduct, which led to one demerit point, and since he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was needed. Rauf was once again found guilty under Article 2.21, incurring a 30% match fee fine and receiving an additional two demerit points.
Accumulating four demerit points within 24 months resulted in two suspension points for Rauf, leading to his suspension from Pakistan’s ODI matches against South Africa on November 4 and 6.
