Cricket Scotland CEO Appreciates ICC World Cup Invite, Plans for Swift Arrival in India

India Unveils Stellar Lineup for 2026 T20 World Cup Showdown

Cricket Scotland’s CEO, Trudy Lindblade, expressed her gratitude to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for their invitation to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup next month, stepping in for Bangladesh. Lindblade noted that the team is “preparing to arrive in India imminently” for the tournament.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that Scotland would replace Bangladesh in the 20-team tournament. Bangladesh withdrew due to security concerns, although the ICC’s assessment indicated no threats.

Lindblade commented on the announcement on Cricket Scotland’s website, stating, “We received a communication from the ICC today inviting our men’s team to join the Men’s T20 World Cup, and we gladly accepted. We are thankful to the ICC for this opportunity. It’s an exciting chance for Scotland’s players to showcase their talent globally. We recognize that this chance comes amid unusual and challenging circumstances.”

The team has been training for several weeks in preparation for upcoming tours and is now set to depart for India shortly to adapt to the local conditions in anticipation of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Scotland will soon announce its 15-member squad for the tournament, starting on February 7. The ICC confirmed that Scotland will take Bangladesh’s place in Group C following their withdrawal. Further details regarding squad selection will be made available in the coming days.

Cricket Scotland chairman Wilf Walsh also shared his sentiments, saying he received a call from ICC chairman Jay Shah, who confirmed Scotland’s participation. “I was pleased to accept the invitation on behalf of our team, who are eager and prepared for the challenge,” Walsh said. He added that they are looking forward to competing against some of the world’s top teams in India in the upcoming weeks.
