2nd Test Scorecard: AUS vs ENG

TOSS – England

England won the toss and chose to bat against Australia.

Preview

Australia aims to maintain its winning streak as it competes against England in the second Test of the Ashes series at The Gabba, Brisbane, on Thursday.

The hosts have won 12 out of the 13 day-night Tests held on home soil, their only defeat coming against West Indies at The Gabba in January 2024. Pink balls are used for day-night Tests instead of the traditional red ones, as they are more visible under the lights.

Batting may be challenging during the twilight and evening sessions when the pink ball swings most, but Australian captain Steve Smith indicated that Brisbane’s relatively firmer pitch, unlike the typically softer surface at Adelaide Oval, could benefit batsmen.

“Sometimes the ball can soften, allowing batsmen to settle in comfortably at times,” Smith noted.

“We need to consider this factor as we head into the match and see how things unfold.”

Australia leads the five-match series 1-0 after their two-day victory in Perth.
