BPL 2025-26 Matches on December 30 Rescheduled in Observance of Khaleda Zia’s Passing
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has cancelled the scheduled double-header of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches on Tuesday due to the passing of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
A statement from BCB expressed gratitude for Khaleda Zia’s unwavering support and best wishes for the advancement of cricket in Bangladesh.
“During her time as Prime Minister, she played a pivotal role in the development of cricket in Bangladesh. Her efforts significantly improved cricket infrastructure and contributed to the sport’s nationwide growth. Her vision and encouragement were instrumental in achieving many advancements enjoyed by the game today,” the statement continued.
“Out of respect for the national period of mourning and in honor of Begum Khaleda Zia’s legacy, the BCB announces today’s BPL matches are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Details on the new fixtures will be provided in due course.”
The announcement from the BCB was made just hours before Tuesday’s first match between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The second match, set for the evening, involved Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders at the same venue.
Bangladesh has initiated three days of state mourning for Zia, who was the nation’s first female prime minister, with her funeral being scheduled for Wednesday.
