Australia’s Healy Remains Cautious Ahead of Women’s ODI World Cup 2025

Australia's Healy Takes a Measured Approach Pre-2025 Women's ODI World Cup

The ICC Women’s World Cup is closely associated with Australia, a nation that has clinched a record seven titles, including three in the last five tournaments. However, captain Alyssa Healy remains cautious.

“You’ve called us favorites, so thank you for that, but I don’t necessarily agree,” Healy remarked during the Captain’s Day event on Friday.

“Playing against India on their home ground will be extremely challenging, not to mention the competition posed by the captains alongside me [England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt and New Zealand’s Sophie Devine]. I truly believe this will be the most closely contested World Cup we have participated in.”

New Zealand’s Sophie Devine highlighted the quality of pitches and outfields, which promise exciting cricket action.

“A few years back, playing here meant dealing with turning wickets. However, as demonstrated in the recent Australia-India series, where nearly 800 runs were scored in Delhi, the pitch quality here is exceptional. The outfield remains incredibly fast,” Devine noted.

“Initially, during the tournament, we may see flat tracks and high scores, but spin will undoubtedly play a crucial role eventually. Everyone is mindful of that.”
