Australia Storms into 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup Semis with Crushing Win Over Bangladesh

Australia Dominates Bangladesh to Secure 2025 Women's ODI World Cup Semifinal Spot

Australia triumphed over Bangladesh with a 10-wicket victory at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Thursday, securing their spot as the first team in the semifinals of the Women’s ODI World Cup.

Bangladesh struggled to reach 198/9, aided by errant Australian fielding, notably from Phoebe Litchfield and Alyssa Healy. However, these two redeemed themselves by effectively countering Bangladesh’s bowling—missing key players Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter—with expert precision.

After a measured start, Litchfield capitalized on Fariha Trisna’s deliveries, setting the tone for the innings. Healy matched her partner’s efforts, helping Australia amass 78 runs by the end of the PowerPlay and reaching triple figures in just 13.5 overs, marking their fastest achievement this tournament.

Healy went on to score her second consecutive century this tournament, while Litchfield secured her eighth ODI half-century, sealing a swift conclusion to the match.

Earlier, Bangladesh opted to bat, hoping to defend their total valiantly. Despite setbacks, such as Litchfield and Healy missing catches and Fargana Hoque’s early dismissal, Bangladesh managed to end their PowerPlay at 37/1, their best performance in the tournament.

Rubya Haider, though fortunate with boundary edges, fell short of her half-century, and Sharmin followed her shortly. Alana King, turning the ball at nearly 4.5 degrees, captured crucial wickets, including those of Nigar Sultana Joty and Shorna Akter.

Sobhana Mostary stood out with a determined half-century, driving Bangladesh to a respectable total, but Australia reached their target with ease, sealing their win with 25.1 overs to spare.
