Assam vs Services: Unprecedented Speed in Record-Breaking Ranji Clash

On Sunday, Services defeated Assam by eight wickets, setting a new record for the shortest Ranji Trophy match in terms of balls at the Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground. Assam was bowled out in just 540 balls.

The previous record was a Railways–Delhi match from January 1962, which lasted 547 balls. In that encounter, Railways was dismissed for 40 in the first innings, with Delhi replying with 137. Railways was bowled out again for 44, allowing Delhi to secure a victory by an innings and 53 runs.

In a historic moment, Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra of Services each took a hat-trick against Assam. This marked the first occasion in Ranji Trophy history where two different bowlers achieved hat-tricks in the same innings. Arjun dismissed Riyan Parag, Sumit Ghadigaonkar, and Sibsankar Roy, while Jangra took the wickets of half-centurion Pradyun Saikia, Mukhtar Hussain, and Bhargab Pratim Lahkar, bowling Assam out for 103 in 17.2 overs.

On Day 2, Services chased the modest target of 71 in just 13.5 overs, losing only two wickets. With this victory, Services leads the Elite Group C table with 13 points from two matches, while Assam ranks fifth with one point.
