Assam Benches Four Cricketers Amid Allegations of Corruption
The Assam Cricket Association has promptly suspended four players—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri—after allegations of their involvement in corrupt cricket practices surfaced. An FIR was filed against these players at the Crime Branch in Guwahati on Friday.
These four players, who have represented Assam at different phases, are accused of attempting to influence some current Assam team members who participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 in Lucknow. Following these allegations, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an inquiry.
The association has also begun criminal procedures, stating that there is prima facie evidence of the players’ involvement in serious misconduct that undermines the integrity of the sport. “The suspension of the players was necessary to prevent any further deterioration of the situation,” the ACA stated.
During the suspension, the players are prohibited from:
– Participating in any state-level tournament or match organized by the Assam Cricket Association, its District Units, or affiliated clubs.
– Engaging in any cricket-related activities, including roles such as match referee, coach, or umpire.
The suspension will remain in place until the investigation concludes and/or further decisions are made by the Association. The ACA has also instructed all district associations to strictly enforce this order and to notify clubs and cricket academies within their jurisdiction to take necessary actions.
