Anukul Roy Reveals Dhoni’s Performance Mantra for IPL Success

Anukul Roy Shares Dhoni's Secret to IPL Triumph

After claiming two wickets for just 13 runs to help Jharkhand limit Karnataka to 157 for nine, Anukul Roy showcased his brilliance with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 95 off 58 balls (including nine fours and five sixes) to lead his team to a thrilling two-wicket victory with only two balls remaining in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Jharkhand’s pursuit of the target transformed into a solo battle featuring Anukul against Karnataka. With six batters dismissed for single-digit scores and captain Ishan Kishan contributing a mere 15 runs as the next highest scorer, Anukul entered the fray at 38 for three in the fourth over. Despite witnessing a cascade of wickets, he maintained his rhythm and resolve, unaffected by the collapse around him.

“I believed that playing positively could help us recover. My mindset was to hit some boundaries, but it was challenging. Boundaries were easier to come by from one end but not the other, so I needed to play smart. I took chances where possible and capitalized on singles and doubles on a pitch that supported them,” he said post-victory.

In an interview, Anukul shared insights on his goals for the T20 season: “I had a conversation with Dhoni bhai during the IPL, and he emphasized performing consistently in domestic cricket. That’s where my focus is. The better I perform here, the greater my chances of playing in the IPL become.”

“Previously, I batted lower in the order. Now, at No. 4 or 5, I’ve prepared for these positions and have been doing well, with the team’s support,” he added.

Reflecting on his IPL journey, having won a title with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Anukul noted, “Confidence makes everything easier. If you feel intimidated by an Indian or foreign player, it’s problematic. You need to trust your abilities and avoid unnecessary pressure.”
