Analyzing Gautam Gambhir’s Test Record as India’s Coach Against South Africa
On Wednesday, South Africa secured a 2-0 sweep against India at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, marking India’s second home Test series loss under head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir assumed the role of India’s head coach in July 2024. Since then, India has played 19 Test matches, winning seven, losing ten, and drawing two. In six series under his guidance, India has emerged victorious in two (both at home), lost three (including two series on home soil), and drew one.
India has now witnessed two series sweeps at home with Gambhir at the helm, including a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand in 2024 and the recent 0-2 loss to South Africa. It’s notable that in the past six decades, India hasn’t experienced five home Test defeats out of seven.
