Veteran legspinner Amit Mishra has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket, concluding a professional career that extended over 20 years.
Mishra, aged 42, played his final international match in 2017 but remained active in domestic cricket and the IPL, most recently representing Lucknow Super Giants in 2024.
His career includes 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India, amassing a total of 156 international wickets. On his Test debut in Mohali in 2008, Mishra made a remarkable entry with a five-wicket haul against Australia.
In the IPL, Mishra established himself as one of the most dependable spin bowlers across multiple franchises. With 174 wickets in 162 matches, he is one of the league’s top wicket-takers. He uniquely holds the record of being the only bowler with three IPL hat-tricks, accomplished with Delhi Daredevils (2008), Deccan Chargers (2011), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013).
In announcing his retirement, Mishra stated: “Today, after 25 years, I am retiring from cricket, a game that has been my first love, my teacher, and my greatest source of happiness. “
“This journey has been filled with numerous emotions, moments of pride, challenges, learning, and love. I am incredibly grateful to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, my coaches, support staff, teammates, and most importantly, the fans, whose belief and support empowered me at every stage.”
