Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate commended India for “fighting fire with their bats” during the high-stakes match against Pakistan. He expressed pride in how the team maintained their composure, especially after Sahibzada Farhan’s gun-style celebration upon reaching his fifty.
When asked about Haris Rauf’s display directed at the crowd, which gained viral attention, ten Doeschate remarked: “The enormous pressure on players makes it challenging to regulate their actions.”
“I observed some of Haris Rauf’s gestures, but that’s not our main concern. We’re genuinely proud of how our players conducted themselves.”
“The team responded to adversity with their skill on the field. While other teams might have issues with some of our actions, we’re very satisfied with our conduct through this tournament.”
Farhan’s unconventional celebration after his half-century, where he posed with his bat like a firearm, garnered significant attention. However, Farhan’s performance dwindled after his milestone, and Pakistan could only add 79 runs in their last 10 overs, falling from 91/1 at the match’s midpoint.
Reflecting on this phase, ten Doeschate said: “They started strong. I don’t think they became overconfident, but we managed to contain them effectively after the 10-over point.”
“Given the circumstances, it’s understandable why some behaviors emerged. However, we stayed committed to our approach and focused on cricket.”
“It could have been easy to lose our calm after certain celebrations and comments from Pakistan’s bowling side. I thought our team remained focused on securing the win. Although not at our best, winning comfortably is satisfying.”
Following the intense match, the Indian team took a day off to unwind and recharge.
“This past week has been intense, especially the game against Pakistan,” ten Doeschate acknowledged. “I think it’s crucial to also highlight our team’s exemplary conduct during the recent game.”
“Yesterday was a complete rest day. The players stayed at the hotel, relaxed, and recharged to face the next challenges. Given the tight schedule of four games in seven days, it’s more of a physical test than a mental one for the team.”
