Markram to Lead South Africa in Pakistan as Bavuma Misses Out on Test Series

South Africa will be without their injured captain, Temba Bavuma, for the upcoming Test series in Pakistan next month. In his place, Aiden Markram will lead the World Test Champion (WTC) squad.

South Africa is set to defend its WTC title in a two-match Test series in Pakistan, commencing in Lahore on October 12. Unfortunately, they will have to proceed without the influential batter Bavuma, who is sidelined due to a calf strain.

“We’re naturally disappointed not to have Temba available,” stated South Africa’s coach, Shukri Conrad. “He has been a pivotal leader and batter for us in the Test format, and his absence will be felt both on and off the field.”

The team traveling to Pakistan will include four spinners, although Keshav Maharaj will only be available for the second Test as he recovers from a groin injury. Simon Harmer has been recalled to the squad, joining Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayan.

Several Test players will be rested for the subsequent white-ball series.

South Africa is also set to co-host the 2027 Cricket World Cup with Zimbabwe and Namibia, aiming to capture the elusive trophy.

Matthew Breetzke will captain the ODI team, while David Miller will lead the T20 side. The team will play three T20 matches from October 28 to November 1 and three ODIs from November 4 to 8.
