BCCI AGM: Key Post Candidates Debated, Manhas Emerges as Presidential Contender

Presidential Race Heats Up as Manhas Gains Spotlight at BCCI AGM

Mithun Manhas, the former Delhi captain and administrator for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, has become a leading candidate for the presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

On Saturday, former India spinner and current Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhat joined Manhas and other cricket administrators in New Delhi for an informal meeting ahead of the BCCI Annual General Meeting.

With Sunday marking the deadline for nominations, several administrators and key decision-makers convened in the capital to finalize nominees for the available positions within the Board.

There was speculation that 67-year-old Bhat, who has played two Tests for India, might be vying for the president’s role. His presence at the meeting fueled rumors, though it’s believed he might be nominated for the treasurer position.

In related news, G. S. Lakshmi, the first female ICC match referee, reflects on her challenging journey as she embarks on new ventures.

While there was talk of considering former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly for the presidency, sources suggest he was not invited to the meeting in the capital.

Manhas boasts an impressive cricket record, having played 157 first-class matches and scoring 9,714 runs across an 18-year career. Besides his participation in the IPL with teams like Delhi Daredevils, he currently serves as an assistant coach for Gujarat Titans. Since 2021, he has contributed as an administrator on the BCCI-formed committee for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.

Probable BCCI Panel:

  • Mithun Manhas – President
  • Rajiv Shukla – Vice President
  • Devajit Saikia – Secretary
  • Raghuram Bhat – Treasurer
  • Prabhtej Bhatia – Joint Secretary
  • Arun Dhumal – IPL Chairman
