The International Cricket Council (ICC) has firmly informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that match referee Andy Pycroft cannot be removed from the Asia Cup panel. The ICC conveyed that Pycroft was not involved in any misconduct.
Through its investigation, the ICC found that Pycroft had discreetly advised Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Ali Agha against handshakes at the toss to prevent potential embarrassment, adhering to match protocols without any infractions.
The ICC acknowledged the PCB’s right to lodge a complaint but emphasized that match official appointments are determined centrally by the ICC, independent of any member board pressures.
The ICC warned the PCB that yielding to such pressures could set a precarious precedent.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan team left their hotel late for their match against the UAE, causing a delay. Following directions from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the team proceeded to the stadium as instructed via social media.
