Suryakumar Backs Rana and Arshdeep’s Efforts in Asia Cup Clash Against Oman

Suryakumar Applauds Rana and Arshdeep's Heroics in Asia Cup Showdown with Oman

India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, stood by Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh after their less-than-stellar performance in the Asia Cup triumph over Oman on Friday. He stated that it would be unreasonable to expect them to excel immediately after having been benched for the past two games.

In their final Group A match, India secured a 21-run victory over a determined Oman, despite Rana and Arshdeep conceding a significant number of runs, each claiming a late-game wicket.

“It’s challenging to perform well after sitting out and then suddenly having to play, especially in such humid conditions,” commented Suryakumar, as Oman’s batters posed a considerable challenge to India, prompting the use of eight bowlers.

He commended Oman for their resilience, noting they played an “unbelievable brand of cricket.”

“Overall, impressive. I feel Oman played well. Knowing their coach, Sulu sir (Sulakshan Kulkarni), I expected some stubbornness. It was incredible; I really enjoyed watching them bat,” said the Indian captain.

To provide his team more batting practice before the Super 4s, Suryakumar moved himself down the batting order, even batting lower than Kuldeep Yadav at No. 9, and jokingly suggested he hopes to bat higher than No. 11 in the next game.

He described Hardik Pandya’s run out as rather “unfortunate.”

Man of the match, Sanju Samson, expressed his satisfaction at getting some time at the crease and playing some shots prior to the Super 4s.

In previous games against the UAE and Pakistan, he hadn’t had the chance to bat as India’s top order successfully chased down the targets.

On Friday, Samson, batting at one-down, scored a 45-ball 56 and formed a 66-run partnership with opener Abhishek Sharma.

“It was extremely humid and hot out there. I’ve been focusing on my fitness over the last few weeks. With the introduction of our new trainer, we did the Bronco test. I’m glad for the time I got in the middle. Oman bowled exceptionally well, especially in the powerplay, swinging the ball upfront.

“I consistently back my strengths and aim to stay positive. Any positive contribution with the bat for your country is invaluable,” added Samson.

Oman’s captain, Jatinder Singh, expressed immense pride in his team’s performance and strategy execution.

“I am extremely proud of the team. They came up with and executed their plans well, staying focused in the moment. I’m so proud of the character they’ve displayed in crucial situations.

“The tournament’s hype was in their minds. While we may lack experience and exposure, this game served as a valuable opportunity. With a T20 World Cup qualifier approaching in Oman, the team is ready,” he said.
