The recent Asia Cup has stirred up drama both on and off the field in Dubai and Lahore. This could now move into the boardroom with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting at the end of the month. Their Annual General Meeting (AGM), halted unexpectedly in Dhaka a couple of months back, is now set for September 30 in Dubai.

Scheduled two days after the Asia Cup final, the ACC meeting will be chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi. It is anticipated that the meeting will have intense discussions, addressing issues from the recent championship as well as unfinished matters from the July 24 meeting in Dhaka.

Though the AGM agenda hasn’t been distributed yet, the Asia Cup has already sparked several issues like the handshake controversy, the match referee dispute, and Pakistan’s withdrawal threat that will be discussed. Another potential controversy might arise depending on who wins the Asia Cup, who presents the trophy, and the dynamics of the award ceremony.

Another consideration is who will represent the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the ACC meeting. The Women’s ODI World Cup begins on the same day in Guwahati, and BCCI members are likely to be engaged with the inauguration. The selection of BCCI’s representative for the ACC meeting is crucial.

The decision on BCCI’s representative will be made during the BCCI’s AGM in Mumbai on September 28. Currently, Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar are BCCI’s appointed representatives to the ACC, both of whom attended the Dhaka meeting virtually.

A key agenda item on September 30 is the election of the ACC vice-president. The issue was unresolved in Dhaka due to BCCI’s objections but will now be addressed. Mubashir Usmani, the secretary general of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), is a probable candidate.

Due to the ACC meeting, the organizers of the ILT20 have postponed their auction. Originally planned for September 30 in Dubai, it is now scheduled for October 1, and Dubai remains the venue.
