Kyle Jamieson and Ben Sears make a comeback to New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming Chappell-Hadlee Trophy T20I series against Australia. Jamieson missed the recent Zimbabwe tour to celebrate the birth of his first child, while Sears was absent due to a side strain.
In addition to Jamieson and Sears, New Zealand’s fast bowling lineup includes the top-ranked T20I bowler Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, and Zak Foulkes.
The young talent Bevon Jacobs remains in the team after his impressive unbeaten 44 on debut against South Africa in Zimbabwe. Devon Conway also stays, having joined as injury cover during that tour. Tim Seifert, who recently scored a record CPL hundred for St Lucia Kings, continues as the wicketkeeper, while Tim Robinson keeps his spot following a Player-of-the-Match performance in the tri-series against South Africa.
Ish Sodhi is the leading spinner in the team, which will be captained by Michael Bracewell. He takes the helm in the absence of Mitchell Santner, who is on the road to recovery from abdominal surgery and is expected to return for England’s tour later in the month. Bracewell has previously led the T20I side on 10 occasions, including a series win against Pakistan earlier this year.
In addition to Santner, several senior players, including Finn Allen, Adam Milne, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, and Lockie Ferguson, are currently sidelined due to injuries. Kane Williamson, who recently finalized an international casual playing agreement with New Zealand Cricket, has chosen not to participate in the series.
The three-match series will commence on October 1 at Bay Oval, with subsequent matches on October 3 and 4 at the same location.
