Since the T20 World Cup in 2024, India has outperformed Pakistan in all areas. They’ve won 85.7% of their matches compared to Pakistan’s 50%, boasting a batting average of 29.4 against 19.9, and a strike rate of 156.5 compared to 129.3. India has recorded eight 200-plus scores during this period, while Pakistan has five, and Indian bowlers top the charts with the best average (16.4) and strike rate (13.3) globally.

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate commented that they are favorites in their Asia Cup match against Pakistan, though he stressed the importance of execution in determining the outcome.

“At this level, it’s all about executing on the day. Considering the current form, India starts as favorites tomorrow,” ten Doeschate mentioned. “The focus will be on consistent performance over the 120 balls each in batting and bowling.”

“We’re aware of the challenging task ahead and aim to remain grounded, improving individually every day. Form is crucial in regional competitions like this.”

Ten Doeschate clarified that there weren’t any special preparations for the match against Pakistan. Instead, the focus has been on controlling the controllables, a point emphasized by coach Gautam Gambhir in team meetings.

“I anticipated more tension during the Champions Trophy game, but it wasn’t significant. Our focus is consistent for all important games,” he remarked.

“The uncertainty of whether this tournament would happen was frustrating. Once confirmed, we’ve focused on our business as usual, keeping sentiments and emotions in check,” he added.

“Gambhir’s message emphasized professionalism and staying unaffected by uncontrollable emotions. The players are expected to maintain professionalism despite sentiments,” he said.

“Emotions are natural in such contests. It’s a sensitive issue, but professionalism comes first. Players understand the public’s compassion,” he noted.

“The Asia Cup was in limbo for some time, and we were unsure about participating. The government’s stance is clear, and we have to set emotions aside as per team discussions,” he explained.

He mentioned the team would follow the BCCI and government’s directives, focusing on emotional control and consistent preparation for all games.

“We aim to play in a manner that represents our feelings for the country. We’re aligned with the BCCI and Indian government in what’s best for the nation at this time,” he said.

“The goal is to manage emotions and prepare consistently for every match,” he reiterated.
