USA’s Aaron Jones Faces Suspension Over Alleged Match-Fixing in Barbados T10
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday that USA batter Aaron Jones has been provisionally suspended on allegations of fixing during the BIM10 league in Barbados during the 2023-2024 season.
Jones, a member of the USA squad that reached the Super Eight stage in their debut T20 World Cup in 2024, faces charges for failing to disclose a corrupt approach to the authorities and for not cooperating with the investigation into the alleged offense.
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged United States of America (USA) player Aaron Jones with five breaches of the anti-corruption codes of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the ICC,” stated the ICC.
The charges mainly pertain to the 2023-24 Bim10 tournament, falling under the CWI Anti-Corruption Code, with additional charges related to International Matches under the ICC Code’s jurisdiction.
“Mr. Jones is provisionally suspended from all cricket effective immediately and has until February 11, 2026, to respond to the charges,” according to the ICC statement.
One charge under the CWI Code involves “fixing, contriving to fix, or otherwise improperly influencing, or attempting to influence any game aspects of matches in the Bim10 tournament in 2023/24.”
The second charge involves “failure to disclose to Cricket West Indies any approaches or invitations to engage in conduct breaching the CWI Code.”
The third charge involves “failing or refusing to cooperate with a legitimate investigation by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official.”
The remaining charges involve obstructing the ICC’s anti-corruption unit (ACU) investigation.
The statement notes that these charges form part of a broader investigation likely to result in further charges against other participants in the future.
The 31-year-old cricketer from New York, who has played 52 ODIs and 48 T20s for the USA, last represented his country in April of the previous year.
