Tanzim Sakib, a Bangladeshi bowler, enters the Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka with confidence, fueled by recent successes against them. Bangladesh has defeated Sri Lanka three times out of their last five meetings, including a 2-1 series victory in Sri Lanka this past July.
Following a decisive seven-wicket win in their opening game against Hong Kong, Bangladesh is gearing up to face Sri Lanka in the group stage at the Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi this Saturday.
Securing a win against Sri Lanka would considerably enhance their chances of progressing to the next round.
“It’s quite clear-cut. Our goal is to secure a victory. Our prior success in the T20 series in Sri Lanka boosts our confidence. We will take to the field with a winning mindset,” Tanzim stated in a press briefing ahead of the match.
“We’ve played numerous matches against Sri Lanka recently. We are familiar with each player and strategize accordingly. Despite their strong roster, we aim to counter them with our best cricket,” he added.
Tanzim also noted that while there have been many intense matches between the two nations, the rivalry is not his main concern.
“Rivalries are a part of cricket, but the primary focus in any tournament is winning. Whether it’s Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, or Pakistan, our aim remains victory. For me, rivalries are secondary; winning matches takes precedence. Overcoming Sri Lanka in the last series has bolstered our confidence significantly,” Tanzim remarked.
Tanzim mentioned that he is adhering to the strategies that brought him success in the last T20I World Cup rather than experimenting too much. He made a notable impact in the previous World Cup, taking 11 wickets, although his form hasn’t been as strong lately.
“During the T20 World Cup, my focus was solely on line and length. This remains my priority against any opposition, and I am aiming to maintain that focus and see how things unfold,” he concluded.
