Netherlands and Bangladesh Clinch Historic Spots in Women’s T20 World Cup

Netherlands and Bangladesh Secure Landmark Places in Women's T20 World Cup

The Netherlands clinched its first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title on Wednesday by defeating the USA by 21 runs through the DLS Method during the Global Qualifiers held in Kirtipur, Nepal.

The Dutch team was chasing a target of 130 and stood at 90 for two after 12 overs when rain halted the match. They were declared winners as they had exceeded the required par score at that point.

Remaining undefeated in the group stage, the Netherlands achieved victories against Zimbabwe, Scotland, Nepal, and Thailand, finishing at the top of Group B. They went on to defeat the USA in their initial Super Six match, securing qualification with two games still to play against Ireland and Bangladesh.

Similarly, Bangladesh secured its spot in this year’s T20 World Cup by defeating Thailand by 39 runs in their Super Six opener.

After topping Group A with wins over the USA, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, and Ireland, Bangladesh also confirmed its T20 World Cup qualification with two remaining matches against Scotland and the Netherlands.

With the Netherlands and Bangladesh making it to the 12-team tournament set for later this year, 10 teams have confirmed their participation.

Scotland, Ireland, the USA, and Thailand are competing for the last two spots in the ongoing Global Qualifiers.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on June 12 in England and Wales.

Teams such as England, Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka had automatically qualified for the global event.
