Key Players Rested as Emerging Stars Shine in AUS vs PAK T20I Series
The Australian cricket team will be resting five prominent players, including Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell, for an upcoming three-match Twenty20 series in Pakistan, according to selectors. The series serves as a preparatory step for the World Cup. Additionally, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, and Nathan Ellis will also not participate in the series starting later this month.
This absence paves the way for fringe players such as Sean Abbott, Mahli Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mitch Owen, Josh Phillippe, and Matt Renshaw to join the 17-man squad. Chief selector George Bailey mentioned that the players will either be returning from injury or having their workloads managed ahead of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, which commences on February 7.
“There’s a great opportunity for those on the brink of selection and some young players we rate highly to gain valuable experience,” Bailey stated. “Several are seasoned international players, and we welcome Mahli Beardman, who has been part of the group multiple times, as well as Jack Edwards, who joined for the last one-day match against India in Sydney last year.”
Australia is scheduled to face Pakistan in Lahore on January 29 and 31, and February 1, before heading to Sri Lanka to kick off its World Cup campaign against Ireland in Colombo on February 11.
