Taide’s Heroics Guide Vidarbha to Historic Vijay Hazare Triumph Over Saurashtra
Atharva Taide’s remarkable century led Vidarbha to their first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy victory, as they triumphed over Saurashtra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru on Sunday.
In pursuit of a daunting target of 318, Saurashtra was dismissed for 279, succumbing to a 38-run defeat in the final against Vidarbha.
After being put in to bat by Saurashtra, Taide and Aman Mokhade, who amassed 814 runs during the tournament—the third-highest in a single season by any batter—provided Vidarbha with a solid foundation. They shared an 80-run partnership before Mokhade was bowled out. Following this, Taide and Yash Rathod propelled the team to 213 for two before Taide’s dismissal.
The left-handed opener reached his century in an elegant innings, taking 97 balls and featuring 15 boundaries and three sixes.
However, after Taide’s departure with 14 overs remaining, Vidarbha experienced a batting slump, ending their innings at 317 for eight in their allotted 50 overs. Ankur Panwar was the standout Saurashtra bowler, claiming four wickets for 65 runs in his ten overs.
Saurashtra’s pursuit hit early hurdles as key batsmen Harvik Desai and Vishvarajsinh Jadeja were removed during the PowerPlay, followed shortly by Sammar Gajjar’s dismissal.
These early losses left Saurashtra trailing the required run rate from the start, and despite determined efforts from Prerak Mankad and Chirag Jani, the chase fell short.
