Visas Cleared: England’s T20 World Cup Squad Sets Stage for Pakistan-Bound Tournament
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is actively assisting with the visa arrangements for 42 players and officials of Pakistani origin who are set to participate in the T20 World Cup in India.
Among the England squad, notable players of Pakistani descent include spinners Adil Rashid, Rehan Ahmed, and fast bowler Saqiib Mahmood. The USA team features Ali Khan and Shayan Jahangir, while the Netherlands has Zulfiqar Saqib, among others.
Sources indicate that visas have already been approved for England’s Rashid, Rehan, and Saqib, as well as for members of the Netherlands squad. Additionally, Shah Saleem Zafar, a staff member from Canada, has received his visa clearance.
Visa processing is currently underway for those of Pakistani nationality or origin representing the UAE, USA, Italy, Bangladesh, and Canada. Appointments have been scheduled for early next week, signaling that the process is nearing completion. The deadline to issue all participant visas is January 31.
These initial clearances are crucial due to the multicultural presence of Pakistani-origin players in both associate and full-member nations.
The ICC’s initiative includes ensuring that cricketers, officials, and reserve personnel across various teams receive their visas, aiming to avoid any last-minute issues before the international event. The ICC maintains regular communication with Indian High Commissions across different continents.
The council is committed to efficiently processing visa applications for the remaining players and officials, ensuring there are no procedural delays. Assurances have been given that pending cases will be resolved within the designated timeframes.
With the visa facilitation proceeding smoothly, the ICC is confident that all teams will be ready logistically before the tournament starts on February 7. Applications from those of Pakistani descent often encounter more scrutiny and longer processing times.
