Siraj Optimistic for Indian Redemption in ODI Series Finale Against New Zealand
India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj expressed optimism about the team’s morale ahead of their crucial match against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Sunday, highlighting the positive atmosphere bolstered by supportive senior players and coaching staff.
Speaking at a media briefing, Siraj acknowledged that missed opportunities had been costly for the team but commended New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell for making the most of his chances. He also dismissed concerns over Ravindra Jadeja’s performance, asserting that the all-rounder is just one breakthrough away from a game-changing spell.
“The environment is very good,” Siraj noted. “It feels really positive. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to express ourselves.”
Reflecting on the series, Siraj praised India’s overall performance. “In the first match, both the bowling and batting units excelled. In the second game, despite early setbacks, we managed to post a strong total of around 280. The partnership between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja was crucial, and Nitish Kumar Reddy also made significant contributions.”
However, Siraj admitted that lapses in fielding were detrimental. “There were a few missed chances that could have altered the outcome if taken,” he added.
He credited Daryl Mitchell for his excellent batting against both spin and pace. “We didn’t execute our plans properly against him, and the dew made it challenging for spinners. But we’re better prepared for the upcoming game and aim to dismiss him early.”
Regarding Jadeja, Siraj was reassuring. “There is no concern about his form. His bowling has been strong. It’s just about getting that one wicket — once it happens, everything will change,” he asserted.
