Punjab Dominates as Vidarbha Stuns: Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Highlights

Punjab's Prowess Shines Amidst Vidarbha's Surprise: Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Recap

In a dominating performance, Vidarbha secured a victory over Delhi by 76 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal held at the BCCI CoE (2) ground on Tuesday.

Vidarbha’s batting lineup set the tone with Yash Rathod scoring 86 runs, Atharva Taide contributing 62, and Dhruv Shorey adding 49, propelling the team to a total of 300 for nine.

Delhi’s response faltered early as pacer Nachiket Bhute dismantled their top order by removing Priyansh Arya (28) and Nitish Rana (0) on consecutive deliveries. Priyansh was in form until he edged a leg-side delivery, while Rana’s risky upper-cut was safely caught by R. Samarth at third-man.

Off-spinner Harsh Dubey chipped away at Delhi’s middle order, reducing them to 123 for five. Anuj Rawat provided a lone resistance with a patient 66 from 98 balls, including seven boundaries. Despite his efforts, Delhi couldn’t keep up with the rising required run rate. Rawat eventually mishit a slower delivery from Praful Hinge, getting caught at cover in the 43rd over.

On a related note, the Punjab team overwhelmed Madhya Pradesh by 183 runs in the other semifinal at the BCCI CoE (1). Opting to bat first, Punjab was aggressive from the start. The top trio—Harnoor Singh (51), Prabhsimran Singh (88), and Anmolpreet Singh (70)—built a solid foundation.

Later, Nehal Wadhera’s quick 56 off 38 deliveries and Ramandeep Singh’s unbeaten 24 off 15 balls powered Punjab to a formidable total. Madhya Pradesh, banking on seam-friendly conditions, were left struggling as their batsmen surrendered on a pitch favoring batsmen. They were reduced to 83 for six within 20 overs. Hopes rested on captain Venkatesh Iyer and Rajat Patidar, but when Venkatesh misjudged a line from Sanvir Singh, he was trapped leg-before. Patidar’s dismissal dashed Madhya Pradesh’s chances.

The upcoming semifinals will see Karnataka face Vidarbha, and Punjab take on Saurashtra on Thursday.
