Harris Shines as RCB Dismantles UP Warriorz in Dominant Win
In matches with small targets, there can be unpredictability, but Grace Harris delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 85 off just 40 balls. Smriti Mandhana played a supportive role, remaining unbeaten with 47 runs off 32 balls, leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over UP Warriorz.
Despite the D.Y. Patil Stadium being half-empty on Monday, RCB dominated the Warriorz in all aspects of the game, securing their second win of this Women’s Premier League season.
Choosing to bowl on a slow pitch, RCB’s decision proved effective as they reduced the Warriorz to 50 for five early on. However, experienced duo Deepti Sharma and Deandra Dottin fought back, building an unbroken 93-run partnership to guide the team to a more respectable 143 for five.
With disciplined bowling from Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith, Warriorz openers Meg Lanning and Harleen Deol struggled, managing only 36 runs during the PowerPlay.
A pivotal move by RCB was bringing in Shreyanka Patil early in the match. Despite conceding 10 runs in her first over, the young off-spinner sparked the Warriorz’s downturn by claiming the crucial wickets of Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield in her next over.
Nadine de Klerk added to the opposition’s problems, taking consecutive wickets of Kiran Navgire and Shweta Sehrawat, before Dottin and Deepti’s recovery effort.
Yet, with Harris and Smriti adding 137 runs for the first wicket, RCB sailed effortlessly. As the dew came into play, the pitch conditions improved. Harris was aggressive, hitting boundaries and sixes, while Smriti anchored the innings. Against her previous WPL team, Harris reached her half-century in just 22 balls before being dismissed by Shikha Pandey.
By that point, RCB needed only seven more runs to win, closing out the match with ease and with 47 balls remaining.
