Sciver Brunt and Carey Shine in Navi Mumbai as Jemimah’s DC Succumbs to MI

Radiant Performance by Sciver, Brunt, and Carey Overwhelms Jemimah's DC in Navi Mumbai

Jemimah Rodrigues has a sentimental connection with the D.Y. Patil Stadium. It’s the venue where the local star debuted in Test cricket, claimed her first World Cup title, and started her leadership journey with Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League. However, her recent experience there was marred by a 50-run loss to Mumbai Indians in the 2026 season’s opening match on Saturday.

Mumbai Indians, recovering from a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru just the night before, appeared to have regrouped effectively. Nevertheless, their initial overs, after being sent in to bat, echoed the struggles they faced against RCB.

Amelia Kerr’s dismissal came via Chinelle Henry, with an impressive catch by Lizelle Lee behind the stumps. G. Kamalini managed a modest 16 off 19 balls before being taken down by newcomer Nandini Sharma.

Nat Sciver-Brunt’s aggressive play left Jemimah searching for answers, as it permitted Harmanpreet Kaur to unleash her own batting prowess, leading to a rapid 66-run partnership.

Although N. Shree Charani’s heightened pace resulted in Sciver-Brunt’s wicket, Harmanpreet found a reliable partner in Nicola Carey to continue the assault until Nandini ended Carey’s innings. Despite Nandini’s excellent performance, the medium pacer from Chandigarh surprisingly bowled only two overs.

Delhi Capitals’ strategy allowed Harmanpreet to score 17 in a 19-run final over, bringing MI close to a 200-run total.

The new Delhi Capitals openers, Shafali Verma and Lee, began cautiously, facing tough deliveries from Shabnim Ismail. Sciver-Brunt took out Lee with an offcutter, while Carey claimed the wickets of Shafali and Laura Wolvaardt within three balls.

Jemimah managed only a single run before being caught out by Kamalini’s superb one-handed effort. Marizanne Kapp hit Carey for a six, but her attempt to repeat the shot resulted in her dismissal at short third.

Despite Henry’s valiant half-century, a drop by Carey in the 14th over didn’t prove costly as Carey later succeeded in the 18th over, sealing the game to quash Delhi Capitals’ hopes for a debut win this season.
