BCB Awaits ICC Decision on Team’s Security for India Tour
On Monday, Aminul Islam, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), expressed concerns over sending the national team to India for the T20 World Cup, citing security issues under the current circumstances.
This announcement came a day after the BCB formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate its T20 World Cup matches out of India. This request was influenced by fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the Indian Premier League (IPL), as directed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Aminul highlighted that after discussions with the cricket board’s directors in two meetings, the decision was made not to send the team to India, prioritizing security concerns.
“We have communicated our concerns to the ICC through a letter, emphasizing our security apprehensions,” Aminul stated. “We anticipate a response soon, prompting a meeting to address our concerns.”
The upcoming actions of the BCB will hinge on the ICC’s feedback.
Aminul clarified that they are engaging directly with the ICC instead of the BCCI, as this is an ICC-coordinated event.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, while announcing Rahman’s release, mentioned it was due to “developments all around,” without further elaboration.
Bangladesh’s schedule included three matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai, with their Group C opener against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 7, followed by games against England, Italy, and Nepal.
