Joe Root Ties Ricky Ponting for Third in Test Centuries Count
Joe Root celebrated his 41st Test century on the second day of the final Ashes Test in Sydney on Monday, matching Australia’s Ricky Ponting for the third-highest number of centuries in Test cricket.
Only Sachin Tendulkar (51) and Jacques Kallis (45) have scored more Test centuries than Root.
This was Root’s second century of the current Ashes series, following his hundred in Brisbane during the second Test.
The former England captain, nearing the milestone of 14,000 Test runs, is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the format and is aiming for Tendulkar’s record total of 15,921 runs.
