Raghuvanshi’s Resilience: From Injury to Triumph in Vijay Hazare 2025-26
When Angkrish Raghuvanshi suffered a neck injury a few days ago, his participation in the upcoming games was in doubt. However, with dedicated support from the medical team, the young player managed to recover just in time to rejoin Mumbai’s lineup for their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Chhattisgarh.
Despite having substantial taping around his neck, Raghuvanshi demonstrated his skill with the bat by scoring a half-century, contributing significantly to Mumbai’s third consecutive victory.
“I had to take a lot of medication and rest to recover and be here,” Raghuvanshi shared with a smile.
Throughout the tournament, the 21-year-old has consistently opened the innings for Mumbai. In the opening match against Sikkim, he partnered with Rohit Sharma for a 141-run stand, which he described as ‘a lot of fun.’
“I’ve been short of runs, but the team has helped me, motivated me to work hard. Just observing their work ethic brings out the best in young players too,” Raghuvanshi commented after scoring 68 off 66 balls, as noted by Shayan Acharya in a conversation with the young wicketkeeper-batter.
“In that 141-run partnership, my contribution was 40 runs. I focused on taking singles, rotating the strike, and watching him bat felt like being in a movie,” Raghuvanshi added.
Having been part of the Mumbai squad for the past few seasons, Raghuvanshi has gained substantial experience. “Playing alongside the stalwarts of Mumbai and Indian cricket over the last three years has been very educational. The competition elevates performance. Even when runs were scarce, the team motivated me to work hard,” he explained.
As a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, Raghuvanshi has been enhancing his wicketkeeping skills during the tournament. “I really enjoy keeping wickets. It’s challenging, but it keeps me engaged throughout the game,” noted Raghuvanshi, who was part of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team in 2022.
When asked if wicketkeeping could feature in his long-term plans with KKR, Angkrish was non-committal. “That you will find out in due time,” he replied.
