The forthcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in India will have an all-female team of umpires and referees overseeing the event.
Comprising 18 officials, including 14 umpires and four referees, the 31-match tournament is set to begin on September 30. This marks the first occasion the Women’s ODI World Cup will feature an all-women officiating team, continuing a trend seen in the last two Women’s T20 World Cups and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Among the officials, Claire Polosak, Jacqueline Williams, and Sue Redfern are participating in their third World Cup. Lauren Agenbag and Kim Cotton, who officiated the 2022 final, are also returning. Eloise Sheridan, another official from that tournament, is part of the team too. The referees’ panel includes India’s GS Lakshmi, along with Trudy Anderson, Shandre Fritz, and Michell Pereira.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the initiative as a “defining moment” for women’s cricket. “This represents a pivotal moment in women’s cricket, aiming to inspire countless future successes across the sport. The inclusion of an all-women panel of match officials is not just a significant milestone, but it also powerfully reflects the ICC’s steadfast commitment to promoting gender equality in cricket.”
“This development extends beyond mere symbolism. It focuses on visibility, opportunity, and the creation of meaningful role models who can motivate upcoming generations. By showcasing excellence in officiating on a global platform, we aim to ignite aspirations and affirm that leadership and influence in cricket transcend gender boundaries.”
