Laura Harris Matches Record with Blistering 15-Ball Fifty in Women’s T20
On Sunday, Australia’s Laura Harris equaled the record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20 cricket, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls. She achieved this feat while playing for Otago Sparks against Canterbury in the Women’s Super Smash match at Molyneux Park in Alexandra, New Zealand.
At 35, Harris matched the record set by England’s Marie Kelly, who also scored a 15-ball fifty for Warwickshire against Gloucestershire in 2022.
Making her debut for the Sparks, the right-handed Harris came in to bat with her team at 46 for 2 during the sixth over.
She smashed six fours and four sixes in her explosive 17-ball 52, leading her team to chase down the target of 146 with 31 balls and six wickets remaining.
Harris now boasts five half-centuries and one century in T20s.
Thanks to her quickfire innings, the Sparks secured the first bonus point in the tournament. This season’s new rule awards a bonus point to any team that scores 150 or more runs, regardless of batting first or second, or achieves a run rate more than 1.25 times that of the opposition in the second innings.
